Foolish Wives is a 1922 American silent drama film produced and distributed by Universal Pictures under their Super-Jewel banner and written and directed by Erich von Stroheim. The drama features von Stroheim, Rudolph Christians, Miss DuPont, Maude George, and others. The silent drama tells the story of a man who names himself Count Wladislaw Sergius Karamzin (von Stroheim) in order to seduce rich women and extort money from them. He has set up shop in Monte Carlo and his partners in crime (and possible lovers) are his cousins: "Princess" Vera Petchnikoff (Busch) and "Her Highness" Olga Petchnikoff (George). Count Karamzin begins his latest scam on the unworldly wife of an American envoy, Helen Hughes (DuPont), even though her husband is nearby. He attempts to charm her, planning to eventually fleece her of her money. She is easily impressed by his faux-aristocratic glamor, to the chagrin of her dull but sincere husband. Karamzin also has his eye on two other women, Maruschka (Fuller), a maid at the hotel, and Marietta (Polo) the mentally disabled daughter of one of his criminal associates (Gravina), seeing them both as easy sexual prey. The Quiet Earth is a 1985 New Zealand science fiction post-apocalyptic film directed by Geoff Murphy and starring Bruno Lawrence, Alison Routledge and Pete Smith as three survivors of a cataclysmic disaster. It is loosely based on the 1981 science fiction novel of the same name by Craig Harrison.[2][3] Its other sources of inspiration have been listed as the 1954 novel I Am Legend, Dawn of the Dead, and especially the 1959 film The World, the Flesh and the Devil, of which it has been called an unofficial remake. 5 July begins as a normal winter morning near Hamilton, New Zealand. At 6:12 a.m., the Sun darkens for a moment, and a red light surrounded by darkness is briefly seen. Zac Hobson (Bruno Lawrence) is a scientist working for Delenco, part of an international consortium working on "Project Flashlight", an experiment to create a global energy grid. He awakens abruptly; when he turns on his radio, he is unable to receive any transmissions. Zac gets dressed and drives into the deserted city. Investigating a fire, he discovers the wreckage of a passenger jet, but there are no bodies, only empty seats. He enters his underground laboratory; a monitor displays the message "Project Flashlight Complete". The mass disappearance seems to coincide with the moment Flashlight was activated. Patton es una película estadounidense de 1970 que relata las hazañas militares del general George Patton, desde la derrota estadounidense en el paso de Kasserine (campaña del norte de África) hasta la entrega de una parte de Alemania a los rusos al terminar la Segunda Guerra Mundial, aunque el filme se enfoca en describir su peculiar personalidad. El filme muestra a un hombre extravagante, carismático, severo, perseverante, romántico (como Don Quijote), quien basaba sus exitosas estrategias en las historias de guerras antiguas, y creía ser las reencarnaciones de un mariscal de Napoleón y de un guerrero cartaginés. Hubo intentos de hacer el filme, que se iniciaron en 1953. Los productores se mantuvieron en estrecha relación con la familia de Patton para ayudarse con la historia de la película. Los productores querían leer los diarios de los familiares y conocer relatos íntimos del general Patton, y los pidieron el día del funeral de Beatrice Ayer Patton, viuda del general, pero la familia se opuso al filme y rehusaron proporcionar cualquier información. Una de las partes más famosas del filme es el discurso que el general Patton pronuncia al principio. Los guionistas lo escribieron basados en una investigación histórica. Soldier of Orange (Dutch: Soldaat van Oranje, IPA: [sɔlˈdaːt fɑn oˈrɑɲə]) is a 1977 Dutch film directed and co-written by Paul Verhoeven and produced by Rob Houwer, starring Rutger Hauer and Jeroen Krabbé. The film is set around the German occupation of the Netherlands during World War II, and shows how individual students have different roles in the war. The story is based on the autobiographical book Soldaat van Oranje by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. The film had a budget of ƒ 5,000,000 (€2,300,000), at the time the most expensive Dutch movie ever. With 1,547,183 viewers, it was the most popular Dutch film of 1977.[1] The film received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 1980. The film is about a group of students from Leiden, the Netherlands, amongst them Erik Lanshof (Rutger Hauer), Guus LeJeune (Jeroen Krabbé), Jan Weinberg (Huib Rooymans (nl)), and Alex (Derek de Lint). Robby Froost (Eddy Habbema (nl)) is a friend of Erik, and Esther (Belinda Meuldijk) is Robby's girlfriend. Each of them follow a different path and therefore have a different role in World War II, either as a collaborator or in the resistance. Part of the story is set in London, where Queen Wilhelmina (Andrea Domburg (nl)) has residence. The students Erik and Guus fight alongside Colonel Rafelli (Edward Fox) and soldier Susan (Susan Penhaligon) of the allied forces in London. The film begins with a flashforward in the form of a newsreel with a voice-over. Queen Wilhelmina is accompanied by Erik arriving in the Netherlands from London shortly after World War II. La historia comienza en Washington D.C. cuando el Ejército y la Fuerza Aérea de Estados Unidos detectan un objeto no identificado (OVNI) volando a una velocidad vertiginosa. Informan por radio y televisión, y el pánico se desata entre los ciudadanos, cuando una nave aterriza en un parque. Del interior de la nave surge una figura antropomorfa vestida con una ropa de apariencia metálica, y tras él sale un robot de tres metros de altura llamado Gort (Lock Martin). Los soldados, alertados del encuentro, se arman y preparan para un posible ataque por parte del extraterrestre. La situación se pone tensa cuando el visitante realiza movimientos con un objeto similar a un revólver, siendo herido por un soldado nervioso. Esto conlleva que el robot comience a destruir las armas de los humanos con un rayo óptico. Tan pronto el visitante se recupera, detiene a su robot, y en un inglés perfecto, señala que el objeto sospechoso es una sonda para exploración planetaria y solicita hablar con los líderes mundiales, presentándose como Klaatu (Michael Rennie). El extraterrestre es llevado a un hospital cercano, donde es examinado minuciosamente, resultando ser exactamente igual a un humano. Klaatu se reúne con el secretario del Presidente, el Sr. Harley, (Frank Conroy) y revela que tiene un mensaje que todos los habitantes de la Tierra deben escuchar. El matrimonio irlandés llega a los EE.UU sin dinero en el bolsillo, intenta trabajar como actor pero lo consigue debido a una depresión que padece por la muerte de su hijo de dos años. Sus dos hijas irrumpen en el apartamento de uno de los vecinos y se hacen amigos. La madre se vuelve a quedar embarazada pero corre riesgo de morir en el parto.
