Shall We Dance? (titulada en castellano ¿Bailamos? en España e Hispanoamérica) es una comedia dramática protagonizada por Richard Gere, Jennifer López y Susan Sarandon. Estrenada el 15 octubre de 2004 en Estados Unidos y el 5 de noviembre del mismo año en España. Es el remake del film japonés "Shall we ダンス?" (Sharu wi Dansu?).2 que a su vez se basa en la comedia musical de de la RKO de 1937, Ritmo Loco (aunque el nombre en ingés es el mismo) protagoniza por Fred Astaire y Ginger Rogers. John Clark (Richard Gere) es un respetable abogado. Es adicto al trabajo. Su vida es una constante rutina: del trabajo a la casa y viceversa. Ama su profesión, pero los casos son fáciles de resolver; no hay emoción. Igual pasa en su casa; John siente que algo le falta. Una noche decide que debe cambiar, de esta forma se inscribe en un curso de baile. Los acontecimientos lo topan con una meláncolica profesora de baile (Jennifer Lopez), que se encuentra frustrada por su fracaso en una anterior competencia de baile. Lawrence de Arabia (Lawrence of Arabia) es una película británica de 1962 dirigida por David Lean e interpretada por Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif, Anthony Quinn, Sir Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins, Sir Anthony Quayle, José Ferrer, Claude Rains, Arthur Kennedy y Fernando Sancho, entre otros.   En 1991 fue incluida entre los filmes que preserva el National Film Registry (Registro Nacional de Filmes) de la Biblioteca del Congreso de Estados Unidos, por ser considerada «cultural, histórica o estéticamente significativa».   Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, Thomas Edward Lawrence es un teniente del ejército británico en Egipto, que atraviesa el desierto en busca del príncipe Faysal en compañía de un guía. Llevado por una gran determinación, Lawrence no deja de ponerse a prueba. En su trayecto, el oficial pierde a su guía a manos del príncipe Sherif Alí, por lo que debe proseguir su camino en solitario. El teniente llega hasta el campamento de Faysal, quien pide ayuda a Gran Bretaña en su lucha contra los turcos. Muy popular entre los árabes, cuyo favor se gana por su coraje y su demostrado amor al desierto, Lawrence lidera la unificación de las tribus de guerreros del norte de África contra el Imperio Otomano y conduce su ejército hacia Áqaba. Spellbound is a 2002 documentary that was directed by Jeffrey Blitz. The film follows eight competitors in the 1999 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Documentary Feature;[1] Yana Gorskaya's editing won the ACE Eddie award for best editing of documentary. Spellbound won the Emmy for Cultural/Artistic Programming and Jeffrey Blitz was nominated for directing. In 2007, it was included as #4 of the "IDA's Top 25 Documentaries" of all-time by the members of the International Documentary Association. Frank Neuhauser, winner of the first National Spelling Bee held in 1925, also appears in the film. This documentary follows 8 teens and pre-teens as they work their way toward the finals of the Scripps Howard national spelling bee championship in Washington D.C. All work quite hard and practice daily, first having to win their regional championship before they can move on. Interviews include the parents and teachers who are working with them. The competitors not only work hard to get to the finals but face tremendous pressure as the original group of over 250 competitors is whittled down and the words they must spell get ever more difficult. Louisiana Story (1948) is a 78-minute black-and-white American film. Although the events and characters depicted are fictional, it is often misidentified as a documentary film, when in fact, it is a docufiction. The script was written by Frances H. Flaherty and Robert J. Flaherty, directed by Robert J. Flaherty, and was commissioned by the Standard Oil Company. A first-hand viewing of the film reveals a story dealing with the adventures of a young Cajun boy and his pet raccoon, who live a somewhat idyllic existence playing in the bayous of Louisiana. A sub-plot involves his elderly father's allowing an oil company to drill for oil in the inlet that runs behind their house. A completely assembled miniature oil rig on a slender barge is towed into the inlet from connecting narrow waterways. Although there is a moment of crisis when the rig strikes a gas pocket, most of this is dealt with swiftly and off-camera, and the barge, rig, and friendly drillers depart expeditiously, leaving behind a phenomenally clean environment and a wealthy Cajun family.   Conflict and action for the plot is provided by the presence of a giant alligator in the area, which is believed to have eaten the pet raccoon and which is hunted in revenge. There is no individual or organized resistance to the incursion of the oil seekers, even after the (brief, offscreen) disaster, who are unequivocally portrayed as friendly, progressive humanitarians. The boy, named in the film as Alexander Napoleon Ulysses Le Tour but in the credits just identified as "the boy", was played by Joseph Boudreaux. The film was photographed by Richard Leacock and edited by Helen van Dongen, who were also the associate producers. Tess es una película franco-británica de 1979, dirigida por Roman Polanski. Protagonizada por Nastassja Kinski y Peter Firth en los papeles principales. El guion, escrito por Gérard Brach, John Brownjohn y Roman Polanski es una adaptación de la novela de 1891, de Thomas Hardy: Tess of the D´Urbervilles. Ganadora de 10 premios internacionales y candidata a 12 premios más. La historia tiene lugar en los condados rurales del Dorset, Inglaterra durante la época victoriana.   La acción se desencadena cuando, de manera inocente, el clérigo de una aldea, Parson Tringham (Tony Church), le revela a John Durbeyfield, (John Collin) un honrado granjero, que los "Durbeyfields" son realmente descendientes de los d’Urbervilles, una noble familia casi extinguida cuyo linaje se extiende hasta la época de Guillermo el Conquistador. Esta información parece inútil ya que la familia perdió sus tierras y su prestigio cuando murieron los herederos varones. El clérigo simplemente piensa que a Durbeyfield le gustaría conocer sus orígenes como una mera curiosidad histórica.   Por desgracia, Durbeyfield se obsesionó de inmediato con la idea de recuperar su nobleza perdida, y utilizarlo para, de alguna manera, aumentar la fortuna familiar. Saturday Night and Sunday Morning is a 1960 British film produced by Tony Richardson. It is an adaptation of the 1958 novel of the same name by Alan Sillitoe. Sillitoe wrote the screenplay adaptation and the film was directed by Karel Reisz. Arthur Seaton is a young machinist at a Nottingham factory. He is determined not to be tied down to living a life of domestic drudgery like the people around him, including his parents, whom he describes as "dead from the neck up". He spends his wages at weekends on drinking and having a good time. Arthur is having an affair with Brenda, the wife of an older colleague. He also begins a relationship with Doreen, a single woman closer to his age. When Brenda gets pregnant, Arthur asks his Aunt Ada for advice on aborting the child as abortions in the United Kingdom were not legalised until 1967. None of Ada's advice works and Brenda decides that she will keep the child and suffer the consequences. There is a terrifying scene where Brenda's husband finds out about her pregnancy and affair with Arthur. On the Town is a 1949 musical film with music by Leonard Bernstein and Roger Edens and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. It is an adaptation of the Broadway stage musical of the same name produced in 1944 (which itself is an adaptation of the Jerome Robbins ballet entitled Fancy Free which was also produced in 1944),[2] although many changes in script and score were made from the original stage version; for instance, most of Bernstein's music was dropped in favor of new songs by Edens, who disliked the majority of the Bernstein score, for being too complex and too operatic. This caused Bernstein to boycott the film. As three sailors – Gabey, Chip, and Ozzie – begin their shore leave, Gabey falls in love with the picture of "Miss Turnstiles", who is actually Ivy Smith. The sailors race around New York attempting to find her in the brief period they have ("New York, New York").   They are assisted by, and become romantically involved with, two women, and pair up: Ozzie with Claire, an anthropologist; and Chip with Hildy Esterhazy, an aggressively amorous taxi driver; and eventually, Gabey with Ivy, an aspiring actress. Claire claims that she's found her passionate "Prehistoric Man" in Ozzie at the Museum of Anthropological History. Hildy invites Chip to "Come Up to My Place". Gabey takes Ivy on an imaginary date down "Main Street" in a studio in Symphonic Hall. Later, Chip sincerely falls for Hildy telling her "You're Awful" – that is, awful nice to be with. Poltergeist (Poltergeist: juegos diabólicos en Hispanoamérica y Poltergeist: fenómenos extraños en España) es una película estadounidense de terror, ciencia ficción y suspense de 1982 dirigida por Tobe Hooper. Es la primera entrega de la "saga de Poltergeist", la que consta de tres partes. Fue producida por Steven Spielberg, quien coescribió el guion junto a Michael Grais y Mark Victor. El film fue el primer gran éxito de Spielberg como productor.   La trama gira en torno a los inquietantes sucesos que acontecen en la casa de una familia que vive en los suburbios, y en la que se sospecha que ha ocurrido el fenómeno de poltergeist.   Steven y Diane Freeling viven una vida tranquila en una comunidad planificada California llamada Cuesta Verde, donde Steven es un exitoso promotor inmobiliario y Diane es una ama de casa que cuida de sus hijos Dana, Robbie, y Carol Anne. Carol Anne despierta una noche y comienza a conversar con el televisor de la familia, que está transmitiendo estática después de un cierre de sesión. La siguiente noche, mientras los Freelings duermen, Carol Anne se fija en el aparato de televisión que transmite la electricidad estática. De repente, un ser maligno se ve en la pantalla de la televisión y se desvanece en la pared, lo que provocó un violento terremoto en el proceso. Ganadora de un Óscar a la mejor actriz de reparto (Anjelica Huston) y 7 nominaciones, incluyendo mejor película. Ganadora de 4 Globos de Oro, y varios premios y nominaciones más. En el ambiente de las poderosas familias mafiosas de Nueva York, Charley Partanna (Jack Nicholson), un pistolero de la familia Prizzi, conoce en una fiesta de matrimonio a Irene Walker (Kathleen Turner), quien se presenta como una asesora en impuestos, pero que en realidad era una asesina a sueldo contratada por la familia Prizzi para realizar un "contrato", y se enamora profundamente de ella, terminando su relación amorosa con Maerose Prizzi (Anjelica Huston), nieta de Don Corrado Prizzi (William Hickey), uno de los capos de la familia y padrino de Charley, para casarse con Irene. Ésta, acepta la proposición de matrimonio, pero antes debe hacer un viaje a California para arreglar unos asuntos antes de casarse. Al mismo tiempo, se produce un desfalco en uno de los casinos perteneciente a los Prizzi, y Charley es enviado a California con la misión de encontrar a un tal Marxie Heller, responsable del desfalco, y recuperar el dinero. King Kong is a 1976 American monster thriller film produced by Dino De Laurentiis and directed by John Guillermin. It is a remake of the 1933 classic film of the same name, about a giant ape that is captured and imported to New York City for exhibition. Featuring special effects by Carlo Rambaldi, it stars Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, and Jessica Lange in her first film role.   The remake's screenplay was written by Lorenzo Semple Jr., based on the 1933 screenplay by James Ashmore Creelman and Ruth Rose, from the original idea by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace.   Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin), an executive of the Petrox Oil Company, forms an expedition based on infrared imagery which reveals a previously undiscovered Indian Ocean island hidden by a permanent cloud bank. Wilson believes the island has a huge deposit of oil. Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges), a primate paleontologist who wants to see the island for himself, stows away on the expedition's vessel. Prescott reveals himself when he warns the crew the cloud bank may be caused by an unknown beast. Wilson orders Prescott locked up, claiming that he is really a spy from a rival oil company. While escorted to lock-up, Prescott spots a life raft which carries the beautiful and unconscious Dwan (Jessica Lange). Wilson conducts a thorough background check on Prescott and realizes he is telling the truth. He appoints Prescott the expedition's official photographer and requests that he be present when Dwan revives because of his medical background. Upon waking, Dwan says she is an aspiring actress who was aboard a director's yacht which suddenly exploded.   Upon arriving at the island, the team discovers a primitive tribe of natives who live within the confines of a gigantic wall, built to protect them from a mysterious god known as Kong. The team finds that while there is a large deposit of oil, it is of such low quality that it is unusable. Later that night, the natives kidnap Dwan, drug her, and offer her as a sacrifice to Kong.
