One Day in September is a 1999 documentary film directed by Kevin Macdonald examining the 5 September 1972 murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. Michael Douglas provides the sparse narration throughout the film. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2000.   The documentary begins with an advertisement by the Munich Tourism Bureau with a beautiful young girl inviting the world to visit the city for the Olympics, then shows interviews with the wives of some of the murdered athletes, including Ankie Spitzer, widow of fencing coach Andre Spitzer. The film also features the first known filmed interview with Jamal Al-Gashey, a surviving terrorist. Al-Gashey, who is in hiding in Africa, wears a cap and sunglasses and his face is slightly blurred.   There are various shots of the Games getting under way, and attention is given to the lax security the Germans had at the Games. The terrorists are seen preparing for the assault; Al-Gashey claims that he and the other members were trained in Libya before going to West Germany to begin the assault. The assault is described by Al-Gashey as well as by some of the German security staff present. Footage of ABC anchor Jim McKay is interspersed, along with sound clips of Peter Jennings, to give an impression of events unfolding as they happened. Lagaan (English: Land Tax) is a 2001 Indian epic sports drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan, who was also the producer, stars with Gracy Singh in the lead roles; British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne play the supporting roles. Made on a then-unprecedented budget of ₹250 million (equivalent to ₹540 million or US$8.6 million in 2015), the film was shot in an ancient village near Bhuj, India.   The film is set in the Victorian period of India's colonial British Raj. The story revolves around a small village whose inhabitants, oppressed by high taxes, find themselves in an extraordinary situation as an arrogant officer challenges them to a game of cricket as a wager to avoid the taxes. The narrative spins around this situation as the villagers face the arduous task of learning the alien game and playing for a result that will change their village's destiny.   In the small village of Champaner, (in the State of Gujarat, in western India) during the height of the British Empire in India in 1893, Captain Andrew Russell (Paul Blackthorne), the commanding officer of the Champaner cantonment, has imposed high taxes ("lagaan") on people from the local villages which they are unable to pay due to a prolonged drought. Led by Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), the villagers beg Raja Puran Singh (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) to help them. L'Étoile du Nord (English: The North Star) is a 1982 French film directed by Pierre Granier-Deferre and based on a novel by Georges Simenon, starring Simone Signoret, Philippe Noiret, Fanny Cottençon and Julie Jézéquel. It won a César Award for Best Adaptation and Best Supporting Actress, and was nominated for Best Actress, Most Promising Actress and Best Editing. On a ship in the 1930s sailing from Alexandria to Marseille, Édouard Binet, a French adventurer, meets Nemrod Loktum, a shady Egyptian businessman, and Sylvie Baron, a Belgian exotic dancer. Nemrod takes the Étoile du Nord train to Brussels, on which he is robbed and killed. Édouard then takes a room at the boarding house in Charleroi of Madame Baron, Sylvie’s mother, with bloodstained clothes and a lot of money that he hides. Despite the suspicions of her younger daughter Antoinette and the other lodgers, the frosty Madame Baron is gradually charmed by the suave Frenchman and believes his stories. The police learn of his presence and, after trial, he is sent to the infamous Île de Ré for transportation to the penal colonies. Madame Baron is among the grieving relatives who wave goodbye. Very Happy Alexander (French: Alexandre le bienheureux, "Blissful Alexander") is a 1968 French comedy film, directed by Yves Robert, starring Philippe Noiret, Marlène Jobert and Françoise Brion. This was comic actor Pierre Richard's second appearance[citation needed] on film, playing a secondary role toward the end of the plot.   The film has been released on DVD on 4 May 2004.   Philippe Noiret plays a henpecked childless farmer that lives oppressed by his authoritarian and materialistic wife, being the only worker in his farm. Whenever he attempts to take a small rest, indulge in any distraction, or simply falls asleep out of exhaustion, there she is chasing him to move on. When she and her elderly parents are killed in a car accident, he decides that the time has come to take it easy and enjoy life a little, sets all his livestock free, and then practically disappears.   The only clue that he is still alive is his dog, who periodically goes shopping to the nearby town with a basket in its mouth. Concerns about Alexander's fate are the center of the town's gossip. After several attempts, a delegation sent by the citizens finds he has retired—to his bed. À l'occasion d'une fugue de sa femme Marthe avec un jeune voyou Mimile, il ne rencontre que mépris et hostilité. Toute la ville se réjouit de voir Cardinaud bafoué. Renouant avec ses anciennes manières, il va ruer dans les brancards, y compris avec ses employeurs afin de retrouver sa femme. Marthe retrouvée, Cardinaud lui pardonne et redevient l'homme craint par tous. Good Bye, Lenin! es una película alemana de 2003, dirigida por Wolfgang Becker, cuyo reparto incluye a Daniel Brühl, Katrin Sass, y Chulpan Khamatova. Paradise Now (Paraíso Ya o Paraíso Ahora) es una película palestina dirigida por Hany Abu-Assad que cuenta la historia de dos palestinos preparándose para realizar un ataque suicida en Israel. Ganó un Globo de Oro en la categoría de mejor película en lengua no inglesa, y también fue candidata al premio Oscar en la misma categoría. Said y Khaled son dos amigos de la infancia que han vivido toda su vida en un campo de refugiados palestino en Cisjordania. Cansados de su vida y de la opresión que vive su pueblo, son reclutados para realizar un ataque suicida en Tel Aviv. Los dos amigos vivirán las horas más intensas de sus vidas cuando su ideología y sus sentimientos se enfrenten, y donde al parecer no hay solución al problema. La película intenta acercarse al trasfondo del terrorismo suicida, deteniéndose sobre las circunstancias y las dudas de ambos personajes y quienes planean el atentado, así como las peripecias que tienen lugar. Jules y Jim es una película francesa dirigida por François Truffaut en el año 1962, forma parte importante del movimiento cinematográfico denominado Nouvelle vague. Está basada en un libro de Henri-Pierre Roché. Actúan Jeanne Moreau como Catherine, Oskar Werner y Henri Serre como Jules y Jim. La historia se desarrolla antes, durante y después de la I Guerra Mundial tomando como personajes a dos amigos, uno austriaco y otro francés, Jules y Jim, quienes conocen a Catherine, una peculiar mujer interpretada por Jeanne Moreau, de la cual ambos se enamoran. Surge así un trío amoroso que termina en tragedia.   Un detalle a tener en cuenta es que el argumento en sí está basado en hechos reales. El personaje de Catherine está inspirado en Helen Grunt, mujer alemana que al viajar a París conoció a Franz Hessel y a su amigo Henri-Pierre Roché, dos artistas de la literatura. Secrètement amoureuse de lui, elle va l'aider à se tirer d'affaire lorsqu'il est accusé de deux meurtres. Fahrenheit 451 es una película de ciencia ficción dirigida por François Truffaut, estrenada en 1966 y protagonizada por Oskar Werner, Julie Christie, y Cyril Cusack. Está basada en la novela homónima de Ray Bradbury. La película sitúa en una sociedad posterior al año 2010, en donde la tarea de los bomberos ya no es la de apagar incendios (las casas de ese momento no son inflamables) sino la de quemar libros, ya que, según su gobierno, leer impide ser felices porque llena de angustia; al leer, los hombres comienzan a pensar, analizan y cuestionan su vida y la realidad que los rodea. El objetivo del gobierno es impedir que los ciudadanos tengan acceso a los libros, pues vela para que los ciudadanos sean felices, que no cuestionen sus acciones y rindan en sus labores.   En este contexto se encuentra Guy Montag, un bombero que en principio no cuestiona estas leyes y está dispuesto a cumplirlas. En el correr de la película Montag conoce a una muchacha de 19 años, Clarisse McClellan, quien le cuenta que a ella y a su familia los tachan de "antisociales” porque piensan por sí mismos.
