Stella Dallas is a 1937 American film based on the Olive Higgins Prouty novel of the same name. It was directed by King Vidor, and stars Barbara Stanwyck, John Boles, and Anne Shirley. Stanwyck was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Shirley for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.   A 1925 silent film version was Stella Dallas starring Ronald Colman and Belle Bennett and the 1990 version Stella with Bette Midler and Stephen Collins.   Stella Martin (Barbara Stanwyck), the daughter of a mill worker in a post-World War I Massachusetts factory town, is determined to better herself. She sets her sights on mill executive Stephen Dallas (John Boles) and catches him at an emotionally vulnerable time. Stephen's father killed himself after losing his fortune. Penniless, Stephen disappeared from high society, intending to marry his fiancée Helen (Barbara O'Neil) once he was financially able to support her. However, just as he reaches his goal, he reads in the newspaper the announcement of her wedding. So he marries Stella.   A year later, their daughter Laurel (played by Anne Shirley as a young woman) is born. To Stella's great surprise, she discovers she has a strong maternal instinct. Even when she is out dancing and partying, she cannot help but think about her child. Out of Africa is a 1985 American epic romantic drama film directed and produced by Sydney Pollack and starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. The film is based loosely on the autobiographical book Out of Africa written by Isak Dinesen (the pseudonym of Danish author Karen Blixen), which was published in 1937, with additional material from Dinesen's book Shadows on the Grass and other sources. This film received 28 film awards, including seven Academy Awards. The story begins in 1913 in Denmark, when Karen Dinesen (a wealthy but unmarried woman) asks her friend Baron Bror Blixen (Klaus Maria Brandauer) to enter into a marriage of convenience with her. Although Bror is a member of the aristocracy, he is no longer financially secure; therefore, he agrees to the marriage, and the two of them plan to move to Africa to begin a dairy farm.   Upon moving to British East Africa, Karen marries Bror in a brief ceremony, thus becoming Baroness Blixen. She meets and befriends various other colonial residents of the country, most of whom are British. She also meets Denys Finch Hatton (Robert Redford), a local big-game hunter with whom she develops a close friendship. However, things turn out differently from her expectations, since Bror has used her money to purchase a coffee plantation rather than a dairy farm. He also shows little inclination to put any real work into it, preferring instead to become a game hunter. Although theirs was a marriage of convenience, Karen does eventually develop feelings for Bror, but she is distressed when she learns of his extramarital affairs. To make matters worse, Karen contracts syphilis from her philandering husband (at the time, cures were uncertain) and is forced to return to Denmark for a long and difficult period of treatment using the then-new medicine Salvarsan. The Unbelievable Truth is a 1989 comedy-drama film written and directed by Hal Hartley, starring Adrienne Shelly (in her first movie role) and Robert Burke. It was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize in 1990 at the Sundance Film Festival. Audry is expected to remain with her high-school boyfriend and become a successful fashion model, but she instead becomes interested in a man of mystery, a man with at least one manslaughter in his past. Many characters speculate about how many people he might have killed, and the stories of his past are taller every time they are told. A genius mechanic who is uncomfortable with relationships, he has to learn to adapt to the interest of this woman supposedly beyond his reach, and to learn to trust his instincts when he has to fight to win her back. Carmen Jones is a 1954 American musical film starring Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte, produced and directed by Otto Preminger. The screenplay by Harry Kleiner is based on the libretto for the 1943 stage production of the same name by Oscar Hammerstein II, which was inspired by an adaptation of the 1845 Prosper Mérimée novella Carmen by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. Hammerstein also wrote the lyrics to music composed by Georges Bizet for his 1875 opera Carmen.   Carmen Jones was a CinemaScope motion picture which had begun shooting within the first twelve months of Twentieth Century Fox's venture in 1953 to CinemaScope Technicolor as its main production mode. The historical costume drama, the western and the war film had filled Fox's production schedule and this all black musical drama based on an established and popular opera would surely be a box office success as proved true. Carmen Jones was released exactly one year and one month, October 1954, after Fox's first CinemaScope venture, the Biblical epic The Robe had entered the motion picture houses.   In 1992, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."   Clasificación [ CM DVD 00943 ] Disponible en DVD, 4 Piso BJB)

Relata la lucha de un hombre por sobrevivir en una isla desierta en medio del enorme Océano Pacífico y volver a la civilización. En 1995, Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) es un analista de sistemas, obsesionado con el tiempo, que viaja por todo el mundo resolviendo los problemas de productividad de los centros de reparto de FedEx. Mantiene una larga relación con Kelly Frears (Helen Hunt), con quien vive en Memphis, Tennessee. Aunque la pareja quiere casarse, la apretada agenda de Chuck lo impide constantemente. Una Navidad con los familiares es interrumpida por Chuck, a quien reclaman para resolver un problema en Malasia.   En medio de una violenta tormenta, su avión se estrella en el Océano Pacífico. Chuck es capaz de escapar del avión que se hunde utilizando una balsa salvavidas hinchable, pero pierde el transmisor de localización de emergencia de la balsa. Boys don't cry es una película estadounidense de 1999, dirigida por Kimberly Peirce y protagonizada por Hilary Swank y Chloë Sevigny. Es una producción de cine independiente, basada en la historia real de Brandon Teena, un joven transgénero que fue violado y asesinado el 31 de diciembre de 1993 por sus amigos masculinos cuando descubrieron que tenía genitales femeninos (a él le asignaron el género mujer al nacer, pero vivía como hombre).   Galardonada con numerosos premios cinematográficos. El filme recrea el caso Teena Brandon, una persona del sexo femenino que se sentía hombre, y lo demostraba vistiéndose y comportándose como tal.   Su historia trágica desde su principio, es la de un marginado total, quién cuyo único intento de tener una vida pasa por una mentira imposible de modificar en el tiempo. La historia es doblemente honesta a cabo del entorno social del protagonista, un pequeño poblado rural de Nebraska. El filme evita el tono panfletario o sensacionalista, y su estética de realismo sucio y las notables actuaciones le dan gran toque de veracidad a la historia que se quiere contar.
