Dune es una película de ciencia ficción estadounidense rodada en el año 1984 y dirigida por el cineasta David Lynch; basada en la famosa novela de Frank Herbert, que fue protagonizada por Kyle MacLachlan, Silvana Mangano, Brad Dourif y José Ferrer, entre otros. La producción estuvo a cargo de Dino y Raffaella de Laurentiis.   El primer intento de llevar a la pantalla grande la novela homónima de Frank Herbert, allá por los años 1970, estuvo comandado por el chileno Alejandro Jodorowsky, quien trabajó en el proyecto durante más de 5 años; durante la concepción y el proceso de rodaje Jodorowsky invitó a participar a quienes mencionaba ser sus 'cinco samuráis'.   Estos -casi míticos hombres de arte- eran el actor, director, guionista y productor estadounidense Orson Welles, el pintor surrealista español Salvador Dalí, el ilustrador inglés Chris Foss, la banda inglesa de rock Pink Floyd y el artista gráfico y escultor suizo H.R. Giger; todos bajo la dirección artística del dibujante francés Moebius. The Fireman's Ball (or The Firemen's Ball, Czech: Hoří, má panenko) is a 1967 comedy film directed by Miloš Forman. It is set at the annual ball of a small town's volunteer fire department, and the plot portrays the series of disasters that occur during the evening. The film uses few professional actors – the firemen portrayed are primarily played by the firemen of the small town where it was filmed.[1] In its portrayal of the prevailing corruption of the local community, and the collapse even of well-intentioned plans, the film has widely been interpreted as a satire on the East European Communist system, and it was "banned forever" in Czechoslovakia following the Soviet invasion of 1968. The volunteer fire department in a small Czechoslovak town decides to organize a ball in a townhall with raffle and a beauty pageant. The firefighters also plan to present a small ceremonial fire axe as the birthday gift to their retired chairman who has cancer (although they believe he may not know of it).   During the ball, three of the members of the firefighter's committee look for eight candidates for the beauty contest, but they have difficulty finding enough of them. A man continues to buy drinks for the committee members to persuade them to include his overweight daughter among the candidates. During the ball the raffle prizes start to disappear from the table, fine consumables first. Josef, one of the firefighters, knows the prizes have been stolen, but is unable to recover them, and even finds out that his wife is involved in the theft.   Clasificación [ CM DVD 00911 ] Disponible en DVD, 4 Piso BJB)

All About Eve (en España, Eva al desnudo; en Argentina y en México, La malvada; en México, también Hablemos de Eva) es una película estadounidense de 1950 dirigida por Joseph L. Mankiewicz y con Bette Davis y Anne Baxter en los papeles principales. El guion está basado en el cuento The Wisdom of Eve, de Mary Orr (1910 – 2006). El cuento, de nueve páginas, se había publicado por primera vez en mayo de 1946 en la revista Cosmopolitan, y estaba inspirado en la historia de una mujer que había sido secretaria de la actriz Elisabeth Bergner. Margo Channing (Bette Davis) es una famosa estrella de teatro que ha cumplido los 40 años. Al finalizar una de sus actuaciones en la obra "Añejada en Madera", tiene una pequeña reunión con el crítico de teatro Addsison DeWitt (George Sanders) y con los productores. Llegando tarde, Karen Lloyd (Celeste Holm), esposa del escritor de la obra, se encuentra en la entrada trasera del teatro con Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter), una joven que dice ser la mayor admiradora de Margo, y siendo así que Karen la invita a conocerla.   Eve habla de su pasado y de cuánto desea ser como Margo y tener lo que ella tiene. Margo siente compasión y decide contratarla como secretaria, algo sobre lo que están de acuerdo el director teatral Lloyd Richards (Hugh Marlowe) y su mujer, Karen (Celeste Holm). Saturday Night Fever (Fiebre del Sábado Noche en España, Fiebre del Sábado por la Noche en Hispanoamérica) es una película estadounidense de 1977, dirigida por John Badham. Protagonizada por John Travolta y Karen Lynn Gorney, en los papeles principales. El guion está basado en un artículo publicado el año anterior en la revista New Work Magazine titulado "Ritos tribales del nuevo sábado en la noche". Tony Manero (John Travolta) es un muchacho neoyorquino italo-estadounidense, que tiene un trabajo intrascendente como dependiente de una tienda de pinturas, pero su vida cambia los sábados por la noche bailando en la discoteca Odisea 2001, donde es una estrella. Allí conoce a Stephanie Mangano (Karen Lynn Gorney), que se transforma en su pareja de baile para participar en un campeonato que se realizará en la discoteca. Él intenta una relación amorosa, pero ella, con más educación que él, lo rechaza a pesar de sentirse atraída por él, y planea cambiarse de barrio buscando mejores oportunidades, pero acepta ser su compañera de baile.  Clasificación [ CM DVD 00914 ] Disponible en DVD, 4 Piso BJB)

Fanny and Alexander (Swedish: Fanny och Alexander) is a 1982 Swedish drama film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. The plot focuses on two siblings and their large family in Uppsala, Sweden in the 1900s. It was originally conceived as a four-part TV movie and cut in that version, spanning 312 minutes; a 188-minute cut version was created later for cinematic release, although this version was in fact the one to be released first.  The story is set during 1907–09 (with an epilogue in 1910), in the Swedish town of Uppsala where Alexander (Bertil Guve), his sister Fanny (Pernilla Allwin) and their well-to-do family, the Ekdahls, live. The siblings' parents are both involved in theater and are happily married until their father, Oscar (Allan Edwall), suddenly dies from a stroke. Shortly thereafter, their mother, Emilie (Ewa Fröling), marries Edvard Vergérus (Jan Malmsjö), the local bishop and a widower, and moves into his ascetic home where he lives with his mother, sister, aunt and maids.   Emilie initially expects that she will be able to carry over the lavish, joyful qualities of her previous home into the marriage, but realizes that Edvard's harsh authoritarian policies are unshakable. The relationship between the bishop and Alexander is especially cold, as Alexander invents stories, for which Edvard punishes him severely. Edvard immediately confines the children to their bedroom. As a result, Emilie asks for a divorce, which Edvard will not consent to; though she may desert the marriage, doing so would place the children in his custody, including the infant from her recent pregnancy. Meanwhile, the rest of the Ekdahl family has begun to worry about their condition. When Emilie secretly visits her former mother-in-law, Helena (Gunn Wållgren), to explain what happened, their friend Isak Jacobi (Erland Josephson), helps smuggle the children from the house. Meet the Fockers (2004) (Los padres de él en España y Los Fockers: la familia de mi esposo o La familia de mi esposo en Hispanoamérica) es una comedia estadounidense estrenada en 2004, secuela de Meet the Parents (2000) y dirigida de nuevo por Jay Roach. Además, está protagonizada por Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner y Ben Stiller. Greg (Ben Stiller) y Pam (Teri Polo) van a casarse, pero antes de eso tendrán que pasar un fin de semana con los padres de él: Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) y Roz (Barbra Streisand). En el viaje le acompañarán los padres de ella Jack (Robert De Niro) y Dina (Blythe Danner) y su pequeño nieto. Ahora, los consuegros tendrán que entenderse, a pesar de ser como polos opuestos. Field of Dreams es una película dirigida por Phil Alden Robinson y protagonizada por Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta y Burt Lancaster, que actuó por última vez en su carrera en esta producción. Robinson también escribió el guion del filme, adaptado de la novela Shoeless Joe de W. P. Kinsella.   La película fue nominada a tres Premios Óscar en 1989 por «Mejor película», «Mejor guion adaptado», y «Mejor banda sonora».   Mientras se encontraba caminando en su sembradío de maíz en Iowa, el granjero Ray Kinsella se sorprende al escuchar una voz que le susurra: «Si lo construyes, él vendrá»; y también se le presenta un espejismo: el de un enigmático parque de pelota a la distancia. Su esposa, Annie, no cree las palabras de Ray cuando este le relata su experiencia, pero de todos modos le permite construir el terreno de juego que él había observado en su ensoñación.   Sin embargo, la obra les ocasiona la ruina económica. Ray y Annie discuten si vuelven a sembrar maíz en esa parcela, pero su pequeña hija Karin les sorprende al decirles que ha mirado un hombre en el terreno de juego. Ray descubre que el sujeto es Shoeless Joe Jackson, un beisbolista que había sido muy querido por su padre ya fallecido. Emocionado por volver a jugar al béisbol, Joe les pregunta si podría invitar a otros peloteros para armar una partida. Želary is a 2003 Czech/Slovak film directed by Ondřej Trojan, starring Anna Geislerová. The movie received a 2004 Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. It was produced by Barrandov Studios in Prague. In 1940s Czechoslovakia, Eliška is a nurse who works alongside her lover, Richard, a respected surgeon. Due to the rising pressure of the Nazis, an underground network has formed to help those in danger of persecution. Richard is one of several doctors taking part in the resistance while Eliška acts as a messenger between contacts.   One night, Richard responds to an emergency call involving a patient in need of a risky operation. Because she has the same blood type, Eliška takes part in the transfusion. Days later, she arrives at Richard's apartment to find their friend, Slavek, waiting with disturbing news. The Gestapo have apprehended two of their members putting everyone at risk for discovery. Stunned, Eliška receives word that Richard has emigrated, but has left papers for her to assume a new identity. Slavek tells her that she must leave the city with a man named Joza – the patient who received the transfusion. Fargo es una película del género policial estadounidense del año 1996 dirigida, escrita y producida por los hermanos Coen. Fue protagonizada por Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Harve Presnell y Peter Stormare. La película debe su nombre a la ciudad Fargo, Dakota del Norte, aunque la mayor parte de la acción se desarrolla en Minnesota.   Fargo recibió siete nominaciones a los premios Óscar, llevándose los premios al mejor guion original y a la mejor actriz para McDormand. También ganó el premio BAFTA y el premio al mejor director en el Festival de Cannes. En 2006 fue introducida al National Film Registry.   Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) contrata a Carl (Steve Buscemi) y a Gaear (Peter Stormare) para que secuestren a su mujer (Kristin Rudrüd) y exijan una cantidad específica de dinero a su multimillonario y burgués suegro (Harve Presnell). El dinero del rescate se dividirá en dos: el cincuenta por ciento para Jerry y el otro cincuenta por ciento para los secuestradores. Todo se complica cuando fallecen tres personas, una de ellas un agente de policía, y la jefa de policía Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) investigue el caso.
