Broken Blossoms (1919) is director D. W. Griffith's most tragic, serious, poetic, intricate, and melodramatic film. Griffith, considered the first master of feature film directors, made this powerful screen masterpiece. This silent film tells the story of a mystical, fragile romance in London's foggy slums between a young, gentle, opium-addicted Chinese man (Cheng Huan) and an illegitimate Cockney waif (Lillian Gish), who is abused and ultimately killed by her brutish, bigoted prize-fighting father. The purest dreams of the couple, both 'broken blossoms', are destroyed by sordid reality of racism. [The film's tale, in part, inspired director Federico Fellini's classic drama La Strada (1954) with three similar character roles.] Its small-scale, fragile and sensitive nature was a surprise to audiences, because this soft-focus, ethereal film was a sharp contrast to Griffith's earlier epic films (all with Lillian Gish in varying roles) – the controversial blockbuster and monumental The Birth of a Nation (1915), the spectacular Intolerance (1916) and his extravagant World War I film shot on location in France and England, Hearts of the World (1918). The film was adapted from a story taken from Thomas Burke's book Limehouse Nights. Lillian Gish's unforgettable performance brought intense critical acclaim to the film, although its main subject areas include child abuse, an inter-racial love affair (one of its first film renderings), drug use, racial bigotry, and murder motivated by revenge. Tora! Tora! The Birth of a Nation es una película biográfica estadounidense sobre Nat Turner, el esclavo afroamericano que llevó una rebelión de esclavos al Condado de Southampton en 1831. La película fue escrita, producida y dirigida por Nate Parker, quien también interpreta a Nat Turner. Parker escribió el guion y solicitó a los financieros que invirtieran en la película. En última instancia, tuvo un presupuesto de producción US$10 millones y fue filmada en el estado estadounidense de Georgia en mayo de 2015. Junto a Parker, la película cuenta con las actuaciones de Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Jackie Earle Haley, Penelope Ann Miller y Gabrielle Union. La película se estrenó en la competencia del Festival de Cine de Sundance de 2016 el 25 de enero de 2016. MASH (stylized as M*A*S*H on the poster art) is a 1970 American satirical black comedy war film directed by Robert Altman and written by Ring Lardner, Jr., based on Richard Hooker's novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors. The picture is the only theatrically released feature film in the M*A*S*H franchise, and it became one of the biggest films of the early 1970s for 20th Century Fox. In 1951, the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in South Korea is assigned two new surgeons, "Hawkeye" Pierce and "Duke" Forrest, who arrive in a stolen Jeep. They are insubordinate, womanizing, mischievous rule-breakers, but they soon prove to be excellent combat surgeons. Other characters already stationed at the camp include bumbling commanding officer Henry Blake, his hyper-competent chief clerk Radar O'Reilly, dentist Walter "Painless Pole" Waldowski, the incompetent and pompous surgeon Frank Burns, and the contemplative Chaplain Father Mulcahy. The main characters in the camp divide into two factions. Irritated by Burns' religious fervor, Hawkeye and Duke get Blake to move him to another tent so newly arrived chest surgeon Trapper John McIntyre can move in. The three doctors (the "Swampmen," after the nickname for their tent) have little respect for military protocol, having been drafted into the Army, and are prone to pranks, womanizing, and heavy drinking. Burns is a straitlaced military officer who wants everything done efficiently and by the book, as is Margaret Houlihan, who has been assigned to the 4077th as head nurse. The two bond over their respect for regulations and start a secret romance. With help from Radar, the Swampmen sneak a microphone into a tent where the couple are making love and broadcast their affair over the camp's PA system, embarrassing them badly. The next morning, Hawkeye goads Burns into assaulting him, resulting in Burns' removal from the camp for psychiatric evaluation. Later, the Swampmen humiliate Houlihan again by pulling up the walls of the shower tent while she is inside, exposing her naked body for all to see. Once they are aboard the train and trying to relax, various interruptions test their patience: after a dalliance with a female passenger, Paul's grandfather is confined to the guard's van and the four lads join him there to keep him company. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr play a card game, entertaining some schoolgirls before arriving at their desired destination ("I Should Have Known Better"). Upon arrival in London, the Beatles are driven to a hotel, only to feel trapped inside. They are tasked to answer numerous letters and fan mail in their hotel room but instead they sneak out to party ("I Wanna Be Your Man","Don't Bother Me", "All My Loving"). After being caught by their manager Norm (Norman Rossington), they return to find out that Paul's grandfather John (Wilfrid Brambell) went to the casino. After causing minor trouble at the casino, the group is taken to the theatre where their performance is to be televised. After rehearsals ("If I Fell"), the boys leave through a fire escape and dance around a field but are forced to leave by the owner of the property ("Can't Buy Me Love"). On their way back to the theatre, they are separated when a woman named Millie (Anna Quayle) recognizes John as someone famous but cannot recall who he is. George is also mistaken for an actor auditioning for a television show featuring a trend setter hostess.
