Stand and Deliver is a 1988 American drama film based on the true story of high school math teacher Jaime Escalante. Edward James Olmos portrayed Escalante in the film and received a nomination for Best Actor at the 61st Academy Awards. The film was added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2011. Jaime Escalante becomes a math teacher at James A. Garfield High School in Eastern Los Angeles and seeks to change the school culture to help the students excel in academics. He soon realizes the untapped potential of his class and sets a goal of having the students taking AP Calculus by their senior year. The students begin taking summer classes in advanced mathematics with Escalante having to withstand the cynicism of other faculty, who feel the students are not capable enough. As the students struggle with the lower expectations they face in society, Escalante helps them overcome the adversity and pass the AP Calculus exams. To his dismay, the Educational Testing Service questions the success of the students, insisting there is too much overlap in their errors and suggests the students cheated. Escalante defends his students, feeling that the allegations are based more on racial and economic perceptions. He offers to have the students retake the test months later and the students succeed in passing the test again despite only having a day to prepare, dispelling the concerns of cheating. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), is a musical film, photographed in Ansco Color in the CinemaScope format. The film was directed by Stanley Donen, with music by Saul Chaplin and Gene de Paul and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, and choreography by Michael Kidd. The screenplay, by Albert Hackett, Frances Goodrich, and Dorothy Kingsley, is based on the short story "The Sobbin' Women", by Stephen Vincent Benét, which was based in turn on the Ancient Roman legend of The Rape of the Sabine Women. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which is set in Oregon in 1850, is particularly known for Kidd's unusual choreography, which makes dance numbers out of such mundane frontier pursuits as chopping wood and raising a barn. Film critic Stephanie Zacharek has called the barn-raising sequence in Seven Brides "one of the most rousing dance numbers ever put on screen. A backwoodsman named Adam Pontipee comes into town to search for a bride. After being laughed at by the owners of the town's feedlot store he goes out in search of a wife. He comes upon the local tavern where he meets Milly. He and Milly agree to marry despite knowing each other for only a few hours. On the journey home Milly talks about how she is excited to be cooking and taking care of only one man, visibly upsetting Adam. On returning to his cabin in the mountains, Milly is surprised to learn that Adam is one of seven brothers living under the same roof. The brothers have been named alphabetically from the Old Testament and in chronological order are: Adam, Benjamin, Caleb, Daniel, Ephraim, Frank (short for Frankincense, the Old Testament having no names beginning with F), and Gideon. All of the brothers have red hair and are well over six feet tall, except Gideon, who is younger and shorter than his brothers.   Milly teaches Adam's rowdy, ill-behaved younger brothers manners and social mores. She also shows them how to dance. At first, the brothers have a hard time changing from their "mountain man" ways, but eventually each comes to see that the only way he will get a woman of his own is to do things Milly's way. They are able to test their new manners at a barn-raising, where they meet six women they like — Dorcas, Ruth, Martha, Liza, Sarah and Alice — and the women take a fancy to the brothers as well. The women, however, already have suitors from the town, who jealously taunt the brothers into fighting during the barn-raising. At first the brothers try to resist and remember Milly's teaching, but Adam refuses to let himself be pushed around by the rival suitors, and calls his younger brothers cowards for letting them get away with their behavior. The rival suitors finally go too far when they attack Adam, which provokes Gideon into fighting back. A fierce brawl ensues in which the brothers dominate their physically weaker rivals. La misma está basada en la novela semi-autobiográfica de Marguerite Duras, la película muestra un amor ilícito en la Indochina francesa durante 1929, entre una adolescente francesa y un rico hombre chino.   En el guion de la película escrito por Annaud y Gérard Brach, la edad de la mujer es modificada de 14 y 1/2 a 18 años de edad, el personaje es representado por la actriz Jane March, quien cumplió 18 años al breve tiempo después de haber comenzado el rodaje.   La producción comenzó en 1989, mientras que la filmación recién comenzó en 1991. L.627 est un film français réalisé par Bertrand Tavernier, sorti en 1992. Coécrit par un ancien policier, Michel Alexandre, il dépeint le quotidien de la brigade des stupéfiants de Paris. Le titre du film « L.627 » fait référence à l'ancien article du Code de la santé publique français, qui prohibe la consommation ainsi que le trafic de stupéfiants. Il symbolise le décalage entre les moyens prévus par la loi et ceux effectivement mis à disposition de la police. Lucien Marguet, surnommé « Lulu », est un enquêteur de deuxième classe de la police judiciaire. C'est un policier de terrain, passionné par son travail quitte à y sacrifier parfois sa vie de famille. À la suite d'une altercation avec son supérieur qu'il considère incompétent, il est changé de brigade. Mais il intègre rapidement un groupe qui lutte contre le trafic de stupéfiants.   Depredador es una película estadounidense de 1987, dirigida por John McTiernan. Protagonizada por Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Kevin Peter Hall, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke y Sonny Landham en los papeles principales y guionizada por Jim Thomas y John Thomas.   La película narra la historia de una fuerza de élite que emprende una misión para rescatar un rehén de una guerrilla ubicada en América Central. Mientras realizan la misión serán a su vez acechados por un cazador extraterrestre..   Galardonada con el Premio Saturno 1988 : a la mejor música (Alan Silvestri). Con el premio BMI-Música 1988 (Alan Silvestri); y el premio Golden Reel 1988 de Motion Picture Sound Editors: al mejor montaje y efectos de sonido (Richard Shorr).   El éxito de esta primera película, propició la realización de una secuela titulada Depredador 2 estrenada en 1990, tiempo después se volverían a realizar películas sobre el personaje Predator junto con el de la saga Alien, tituladas Alien vs. Depredador (2004) y Alien vs. Depredador 2 (2007). Bird es una película biográfica estadounidense de 1988, dirigida por Clint Eastwood y protagonizada por Forest Whitaker que narra la vida del saxofonista Charlie Parker. La película narra la historia de la vida del legendario saxofonista Charlie Parker, apodado "Bird". La carrera artística de Parker fue influenciada por su uso de las drogas y el alcohol. Clint Eastwood, aficionado al jazz, y su guionista Oliansky encontraron las imágenes propicias para dar a la biografía de este músico el estilo de vida salvaje de un artista brillante en forma de película. Las primeras escenas consiguen introducir a la audiencia en la vida de Charlie Parker, quien se encuentra al borde de la decadencia humana. Tras tocar en un pequeño club de jazz, Parker regresa a su casa, borracho, donde inicia una discusión con su esposa Chan, mientras que Parker toma una sobredosis lo que provoca que sea ingresado en un hospital. El director del hospital cree que la mejor solución es tratar a Parker con electroshock, pero Chan se opone porque piensa que ello acabará con la creatividad de su marido.   Un tiempo después, Charlie mejora y sale del hospital con su mujer Chan, pero las drogas reaparecen en el camino y al final abandona a su mujer. Unfaithful is a 2002 American erotic thriller drama film directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Chad Lowe, Dominic Chianese and Olivier Martinez. It was adapted by Alvin Sargent and William Broyles Jr. from the French film The Unfaithful Wife (La Femme infidèle, 1968) by the noted director Claude Chabrol. It tells about a couple living in suburban New York City whose marriage goes dangerously awry when the wife indulges in an adulterous affair with a stranger she encounters by chance.   Unfaithful grossed $52 million in North America and a total of $119 million worldwide. Despite mixed reviews overall, Lane received much praise for her performance. La productora de la película es Universal Pictures. Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) está a punto de casarse. Y la familia Klump no podía sentirse más dichosa. Su novia, Denise Gaines (Janet Jackson), está encantada de convertirse en una más de los Klump, y con su apetito no hay dudas de que encajará perfectamente bien; Mamá piensa que es grandioso; Papá es menos efusivo; Abuela se siente aliviada de que Sherman, por fin, va a disfrutar los placeres de las relaciones íntimas, revelando que tiene sueños sexuales con Ken Norton; la beligerancia de Ernie ha quedado momentáneamente opacada, y Ernie Jr. no puede esperar hasta que llegue la fiesta para celebrar. Gentleman's Agreement, conocida en castellano como La luz es para todos (Argentina / México) y La barrera invisible (España), es una película de 1947 dirigida por Elia Kazan. Narra la vida de un periodista (interpretado por Gregory Peck) que intenta encontrar focos de antisemitismo en Nueva York. Fue controvertida en su momento por su parecido con la película Crossfire. Eso no le impidió ganar el Óscar a la mejor película. Un escritor que realiza un artículo sobre el antisemitismo se hace pasar por judío, sorprendiéndose de la cantidad de problemas y las reacciones de amigos y compañeros de trabajo que conlleva profesar esta religión.
